So you want a six pack? Your first I inclination is likely to get yourself to a gym as quickly as possible, lie down on an ab matt and go crazy with hundreds upon hundreds of sit-ups, correct? If it worked for Britney, it’s sure as heck going to work for you too (and you will have the determination to keep those abs looking fantastic unlike the formerly fit pop tart).
Wrong.
I hate to break the news to you but you would be going about getting a defined mid-section all the wrong way.
The first thing you need to realize is that when it comes to abs, they are always working. Even right now. Look down. How do your abs look? - and no sucking in the gut instantaneously as your head moves down… The more often you practice holding those muscles in; pulling that belly button towards the back of your spine, the flatter they are going to be. By doing so, you will be working them throughout the day therefore requiring less time that you need to dedicate to them in the gym. In all reality, if you know how to train smart you really don’t have to dedicate all that much time at the gym to your ab workouts at all. You can perform a few exercises while you are at home and be done with it.
Which leads us to the next important point. Exercises. Crunch away all you like, but you are still not going to see your abs. The only way you are going to see them is if you push-away from the food in the cupboards. That’s right ladies and gentleman. When you’ve got a layer of fat covering those abs, regardless of how massive the muscles underneath may be, you are not going to get that defined look you are going for. Why do you think you see so many seven and eight year old kids running around with six packs that belong in the Olympics? It isn’t because they spent four hours that morning doing sit-ups. No, they were watching cartoons. They simply haven’t developed any massive amounts of body fat to cover their muscles yet (well most of them haven’t… let’s not talk about child obesity in this article, that is a whole other issue). Everyone has abs. You. Me. Even that fat guy sitting on the bench. It is how much extra layering we have covering our abs that makes a difference. So tip two, get your diet in check. That will do you wonders in your quest for a six pack.
